
Meet the 2009-10 San Rafael Alumni Board of Directors.Officers:
Harry Miller, President, Class of 1961, was very active during his years at SRHS. In the sports arenas he played on the baseball and football teams. He was on the tennis team, which were County Team Champions for three years, and Harry was team MVP for two years. He served on the student council, was the Senior Class Vice President and worked on the yearbook. In addition he was in the Kiwanis Club, the Sportsman Club and served as President of the SRHS Spirit Club. He was in the first "All Male" student body Yell Leaders in 1961 along with fellow students Gary Ledson, Jim Rosa and Jim Costello.
Harry met and married Suzanne E. Staley who also attended SRHS, class of 1961. They had two children who also attended SRHS, Robert Andrew )Drew) Miller, class of 1987, and Michelle Elizabeth Miller, class of 1989.
Not only did Harry and his wife and their children attend SRHS, his father coached and taught at SRHS for 42 years from 1932-1974. The football field, Miller Field, is named after him.
After graduating SRHS, Harry continued his education and graduated from the University of Santa Clara and received a Masters Degree from Northwestern University. He was a US Army Major and served our country in Vietnam. He went on to become the Vice President of a Consumer Affairs Division and Compliance Department for 30 years. He was a lobbyist in Washington D.C. for five years for the health care industry. He retired as the Senior Vice President of the Reinsurance Company in 2004.
He has remained involved in SRHS over the years. While his children were there he was the President of the SRHS Boosters Organization for 10 years. Harry was the Chairman of the SRHS Alumni Association's Parade celebrating SRHS's 100th Year Anniversary. He has served on the Board of Director's for the SRHS Alumni Association for many years and has become even more involved in the SRHS Alumni Association, and will be serving the group as the 2008-09 President, feeling it was time to give back to the school and community while in retirement. He feels, "There is nothing more important than contributing to the development of the community's youth."
Judy Cox McGrath, Vice President, Class of 1956, was a member of the Girls' Recreation Association (GRC), the Aquatic Club and the Popcorn Committee (selling popcorn at lunchtime), while at SRHS. She was also the Senior Class Standing Committee Yell Leader. Jusy also participated in Theater Arts and many variety shows.
Judy married Joe McGrath inspite of him being a Drake Pirate. Their two children both graduated from SRHS...Amy in 1986 and Garth in 1989. Both were active in sports.
Judy played tennis for many years and is currently very active in boccee ball.
The Alumni Association was formed in 1984 to help plan the 100-year anniversary celebration of SRHS in 1988. Judy was one of the original founding members and has continually been on the Board of Directors helping make the Alumni Association what it is today. In past years she has held the office of President and has been Newsletter Editor. Currently Judy is Vice President.
Linda Landers Markwick, Treasurer/Correspondence Secretary, Class of 1965, was born and raised in San Rafael. For her educational career she attended Coleman Elementary, Davidson Middle and San Rafael High.
Almost immediately after graduating from high school she began working for Bergman Manufacturing Company as Traffic Control Manager/Shipping Clerk/Quality Control Secretary. When that company closed she began work in the Credit Department of McGraw Hill Publishing Company and remained with them for 18 years until the closure of Bay Area offices.
She has two children that, like her, attended San Rafael High School for their high school careers, Tony Markwick, class of 1987 and Tamara Markwick, class of 1996.
She always looked fondly upon her high school days at San Rafael High School and was happy to join the SRHS Alumni Association in 1989, shortly after it was created. She became a board member that year as well and has since served for many years as an Officer on the Board. She has enjoyed working as a part of the Alumni Association to support the school.
Tamara Markwick, Secretary, Class of 1996, is a Marin native. She attended Coleman Elementary School grades K-5, Davidson Middle School grades 6-8 and San Rafael High School grades 9-12. At San Rafael High School she was actively involved with the school community in various clubs, events and activities. She was a cheerleader for both football and basketball seasons three years, played soccer for one year and served as one of the stat people for the wrestling team for one year. She was a reporter for the school newspaper including serving as Co-Editor in Chief for one year.
She has been a member of the Alumni Association since 1996 when she graduated and joined the Alumni Association Board of Directors in 2008. She continues a realtionship with the school by serving on the Alumni Association as Secretary and helping to bring new ideas to implement into the group. Her main focus in life however, is raising her two sons.
She works in the childcare field and also works in event planning and wedding officiating as well as overflow business work and is actively involved in several local mother's clubs and statewide educational clubs.

Ramona Vincilione Chipman, Class of 1946, While at SRHS, Ramona was in the Concert Band, Pep Band and Dance band. She was a member of the Girls League, Scholarship Society and Ra Ravas Girls Club. She graduated in 1946.
Ramona is retired from the US Army and also the California DMV. She stays busy now as a community volunteer in Novato. Just this year (2010) she joined to the Board of Directors for the SRHS Alumni Assoc.
"I have wonderful memories of my high school years and wish present students the same good fortune," says Ramona.
Pam Tuttle Collins, Class of 1974, joined the Alumni Association in the Fall of 2008. She feels it seemed like a logical continuation of her volunteering at SRHS to join the Alumni Association Board!
Pam graduated from Santa Clara in June 1977 with a B.S. in Political Science and from 1977 to 1990 worked in San Francisco as a legal secretary. She is married to fellow San Rafael High School Alumni, Tom "Pat" Collins who graduated SRHS in 1973. They have two children, a daughter, Meaghan, who graduated from SRHS in June 2009, and a son, Skylar, who attended SRHS from August 2006 through June 2009.
While their two children were growing up Pam worked for a software training group specializing in law firms supporting users that had completed training in Windows, a document management program and Microsoft programs, then became involved in volunteering at Glenwood School, Davidson Middle School and finally San Rafael High School. In August of 2005 she joined the PTSA board of San Rafael High, and soon became President when the president’s other obligations prohibited her from continuing on the board. From 2005 until Meaghan’s graduation in June 2009 she was either president or co-president of the parent organization as well as being one of the parents-in-charge of the annual Tree Lot. Pam created the www.WeAreSR.com website (WeAreSR! is the parent organization of SRHS) and helped implement SRHS e-news blasts to parents as well as works on the San Rafael High School website (www.sanrafael.srcs.org).
In September 2009 her husband and her were honored to receive the Marc Lechner award from the Athletic Boosters for their dedication and support of San Rafael High School.

Vince Mueller, Class of 1957, was on the football and swimming teams during his years at SRHS. He was a member of the Key Club, Scholarship Society and Junior Statesmen.
Since graduation he has been a high school teacher, a business executive in travel and was involved in several marketing venues. Vince's primary hobbies are wine label collection and wine history research. He likes duplicate bridge and travel.
Vince joined the SRHS Alumni Association to promote the continuing growth and development of the school, it's staff and students.
Dolly Wright Nave, Class of 1950, states, "I love my school. It was so much fun!" This must be the reason behind her years of dedication and hard work to SRHS. While at SR she was Student Body Secretary. She has acted as project coordinator for the Alumni Association since it's formation in the mid-1980's.
Dolly's years of giving back to the community began in 1956. Over the years, she volunteered in different capacities for the Catholic Junior Social Services, St. Raphaels Mothers Guild, CYO Basketball, Camp Fire Girls, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Little League, Big League, Pop Warner, St. Raphaels Athletic Program, SRHS Boosters Club, Albert Park Ball Fields and was a Driver & Escort for elderly residents of the Aldersly Danish Home. She was even a coach for SR Cheer Leaders.
Dolly's years as a "project coordinator" to SRHS and other community projects are invaluable and too numerous to list in this small space. Her talent is unmatched when it comes to raising funds for a project and getting people to donate materials and their time.
Over the years, Dolly has received many awards ... again, too numerous to list. In 1988 she was chosen San Rafael Citizen of the Year. In 1991 she was chosen Woman of the Year for the third Senate District for the St. of Ca. Dolly was inducted into the Marin County High School Hall of Fame in 1993.
Dolly is married to Richard Nave, Class of 1948. Their children have graduated from SRHS (Bruce, 1970; Kathy, 1972; Riche, 1974; Patti, 1975; Sheri, 1977; Paul, 1979; Thomas, 1983; and Louis, 1986) and one of their many grandchildren (Corryn, 1991).
Rich Nave, Class of 1948, was very active at SRHS. He was on the football, basketball and track teams. He was Student Body President, Boys' Organization President, Sportsman Club President and Block SR President.
He married Dolly Wright, Class of 1950. All eight of their children graduated from SRHS (Bruce/1970, Kathy/1974, Rich/1974, Patti/1975, Paul/1977, Sheri/1976, Thomas/1981 and Louie/1983) along with one grandchild (Coryn/1991).
After graduation, Rich continued to be active in the community. He has been a San Rafael City Councilman, a partner in Nave Bowling Lanes, Nave Shopping Center and Nave Bros. He has also been a San Rafael Booster member for 20 years, on the San Rafael PTA and on the San Rafael-Terra Linda Joint School Committee. Rich was a SRHS assistant football coach in 1955, 1956 and 1957 with Paul Miller, Bill Nave and Jack Sims.
Rich has been volunteering for the Alumni Association for 22 years and says, "I love San Rafael High School. I had a great experience attending SR."
Larry Oliver, Class of 1957. While at SRHS, Larry was on the JV Baseball team and a member of the Tumbling Club. He was Senior Class Vice President and on the Senior Ball committee. He helped with his 50th Class Reunion.
Larry has been married for over 45 years to Marietta and has four children (Marla, Marc, Michael and David) and two grandchildren (Jordan and Kiara).
"I have had the privilege and honor to be teaching the SRHS Metal Shop since 1999. Bill Costello called me to ask me to apply and Mrs. Judy Colton (Principal) hired me. I plan to stay as long as possible."
"I have a 1966 corvette roadster that I try to find the time to enjoy and work on."
Larry joined the Alumni Board to support the high school he attended and now works.
Cathy Selmi, Class of 1974, was on the badminton team and participated in drama and musicals while at SRHS. Also she was in journalism, writing for the Red & White. Outside of school, she was active in Rainbow Girls.
Cathy has been training software applications for 20 years along with writing training materials and providing technical support. She has been working for the County of Marin in the Information Technology Department since 2002. She enjoys knitting, wine tasting, reading and spending time with family and friends.
Cathy has just joined the Alumni Association Board of Directors this year (2010). She became involved when Harry Miller, through their connection on the SRHS Scholarship Foundation, asked her to come to a meeting.
Barbara Ortner Ware, Class of 1950, was a member of Ra Ravas, Alpha Kappa, G.A.A. and was on the Senior Standing Committee as Secretary-Treasurer in the Spring during her years at SRHS. She graduated in 1950.
She married Paul Ware, SRHS Class of 1947. Barbara says, "Paul and I will celebrate our 60 year wedding anniversary next year (2011). We have 3 beautiful daughters all of whom attended Terra Linda High School. We have 7 wonderful grandchildren all living within 50 miles from us. We now have an adorable great-granddaughter, a true treasure."
Barbara's life is full pursuing a multitude of interests, activities and joy.
Barbara has been with the SRHS Alumni Association since it's inception in 1986. She assisted with the SRHS Bicentennial celebration in 1988 and in past years has served as Secretary-Treasurer.
Paul Ware, Class of 1947, has been volunteering for the San Rafael High School Alumni Association since it started in the 1980s. He has served on the Board of Directors all these years, serving as Treasurer for several years and as President for over ten years. Paul attended San Rafael High School and participated in both the soccer and wrestling teams during his school career at SRHS. His wife, Barbara Ortner Ware, is also a San Rafael High School alumni and serves on the Alumni Association's Board of Directors. Paul and Barbara are long time San Rafael residents and raised three daughters together.

Thank you to Paul Ware, class of 1947, who as of December 1, 2008 has retired from his role as President of the SRHS Alumni Assocaiton, a job he proudly held for the past twelve years. And to Vera Leptien Hunt, who has stepped down from her role as Vice President. Your dedication and work for the benefit of the group and the school is appreciated. We look forward to them contiuing their work with the group as both have chosen to remain as active Board Members.
